Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how MotoGuru Holdings LLC ("Motoguru", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile applications (the "App"), our website at motoguru.com (the "Site"), and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
Plain-English summary: We collect the data we need to make Motoguru work — your location when you're using navigation, your account info, what bikes you have, what routes you save. We don't sell it. We don't use it for advertising. We share it with service providers (like our maps and SMS vendors) only when needed to make a feature work.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information — name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Profile information — your primary bike, optional avatar, and any biographical info you choose to add.
- Bikes and maintenance records — make, model, year, VIN (optional), license plate (optional), mileage, and service history.
- Emergency contacts — names, relationships, and phone numbers of the people you designate to receive SOS alerts.
- Routes you create — waypoints, route names, descriptions, and whether you publish them.
- Payment information — if you subscribe to Motoguru Pro, payments are processed by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android). We do not receive or store your card number.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Location data — when you use navigation, group rides, weather alerts, or SOS, we collect precise GPS coordinates from your device. You can disable location services in your device settings, but most app features will not function without it.
- Device information — operating system, app version, device model, and a unique device identifier.
- Usage information — which features you use, how long sessions last, and which routes you view.
- Crash and performance data — diagnostic information when the app crashes or runs slowly.
1.3 Information from third parties
If you sign in with Apple, Google, or another identity provider, we receive your name and email address from that provider. We don't receive your password.
2. How we use information
- To operate the App's core features — navigation, group rides, SOS, route discovery, garage and maintenance tracking.
- To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, receipts).
- To send SMS messages on your behalf when you trigger SOS, using your designated emergency contacts.
- To process subscription payments and provide customer support.
- To diagnose crashes, improve performance, and develop new features.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests from government authorities.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
- Service providers. We use third-party vendors to operate the Service. These include cloud hosting (Amazon Web Services), maps (Google Maps Platform and Apple Maps), SMS delivery (Twilio), real-time messaging for group rides (Ably), weather data (National Weather Service and Tomorrow.io), crash reporting (Sentry), and analytics (PostHog). Each receives only the information they need to perform their function.
- Other riders, with your permission. When you join a group ride, your live location is shared with the other members of that ride. When you publish a user-created route, the route's waypoints become visible to other Motoguru users. Your account name is associated with both.
- Emergency contacts. When you trigger SOS, the contacts you've designated receive an SMS containing your name and a link to your live location.
- Legal compliance. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
- Business transfers. If Motoguru is acquired, merged, or sold, your information may transfer to the new owner. We will notify you and continue to honor this Privacy Policy until it is amended.
4. Your choices and rights
4.1 Access, correction, deletion
You can view, update, or delete most of your information directly within the App. To delete your entire account, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account, or email us at support@motoguru.com. Account deletion is irreversible and takes effect within 30 days.
4.2 Location permissions
You can disable location services in your device settings at any time. Doing so will disable navigation, group rides, SOS, and weather features.
4.3 Marketing communications
We send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, security alerts) that you cannot opt out of while your account is active. We send occasional product emails that you can opt out of by clicking "unsubscribe" in any message.
4.4 California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other US state rights
Residents of these states have additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we hold about you, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of "sales" (we do not sell). To exercise these rights, email support@motoguru.com.
4.5 European and UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection to processing. Our lawful basis for processing is your consent (for location and marketing) and contract performance (for the rest of the Service). Email support@motoguru.com to exercise any right.
5. Data retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active. After account deletion, we retain a minimal record of the account (your email and the deletion date) for 7 years to satisfy tax and audit obligations, and we delete everything else within 30 days.
6. Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256). Passwords are stored as salted hashes (bcrypt). We restrict employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's privacy
Motoguru is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it. Parents who believe their child has provided us information should contact support@motoguru.com.
8. International transfers
Motoguru is based in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have data-protection laws different from your country.
9. Changes to this Policy
We will post any changes to this Privacy Policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top. If the changes are material, we will notify you in the App and by email at least 30 days before they take effect.
